Veteran Justin Rose (42) picked up three shots in his last seven holes and salvaged a one-over 73 to remain on top in the Betfred British Masters at The Belfry.

“Actually pretty happy walking off the golf course,” Rose said. “If you had interviewed me through ten holes, I probably wouldn't have done the interview. So it was definitely a good finish, good strong finish to keep me in it.”

The 2013 US Open champion shares the lead on six-under with France’s Antoine Rozner, who shot 68 to leave them a shot clear of a seven-man group that includes reigning Irish Amateur Open champion John Gough (24), who plays for England though his father is from Meath and his mother from Down

In Detroit, Taylor Moore (67) and Taylor Pendrith (64) lead the Rocket Mortgage Classic by a shot from Rickie Fowler and Swedish rookie Ludvig Aberg on 13-under par with Adam Schenk, Justin Lower, Aaron Rai and Collin Morikawa a shot further back.

Tom McKibbin (five-over) and John Murphy (12-over) missed the cut.

In the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge in Normandy, Niall Kearney shot 71 and Jonny Caldwell a five-under 67 to go into the weekend tied for 16th on five-under, just four strokes behind Sweden’s Hugo Townsend.

In amateur golf, Royal Dublin’s Hugh Foley goes into the final round of the European Amateur Championship six shots behind leader José Luis Ballester of Spain.

He carded a two-under-par 70 at Pärnu Bay Golf Links in Estonia on 16-under par with Kilkenny’s Mark Power two shots further back after he got to six-under for the day through 10 holes but made two double bogeys in his last four holes and also shot 70.

Royal Dublin’s Max Kennedy was the only other Irish player to make the 54-hole cut in a share of 36th on 11-under after a 69.
