Colin Cunningham appears to be getting better with age after teaming up with his son John to win the  Campion Insurance-sponsored Dublin Scratch Foursomes at sun-splashed Grange on Sunday.

Cunningham (50) helped Carton House win last year’s AIG Men's Senior Cup at Tramore after son John—a substitute that day—had already helped the Co Kildare club win the All Ireland Fred Daly Trophy.

The Cunninghams opened with a three-under 68 on the Sheahan Course, which saw the par-three sixth replaced by the first on the Love Course due to ongoing course improvements.

They were tied for second with Fota Island’s David Howard and Keith Crowley, a shot behind Grange’s Jake Whelan and Jonathan O’Driscoll (67) before carding a 71 to win by a shot on three-under 139.

Dun Laoghaire’s Marc Nolan and Colin Woodroofe edged out Whelan and O’Driscoll for second after a countback as they closed with a 72 to the local duo’s 73.

Howard and Crowley (68-72) were fourth on 142 as Bunclody’s Jason Rackard and Warrenpoint’s Colm Campbell finish fifth on 144 with County Louth’s Gavin Tiernan and Gerard Dunne (71-74) a shot further back in sixth.

Carton House’s Keith Egan and Marc Boucher won the first 18 with a 71, which was one shot better than Portmarnock’s Colum Kenny and Fran Quilty.

Pádraig Harrington’s caddie Ronan Flood, playing out of Grange alongside clubman Donal Dunlop, won the best second-round score with a 71, edging out Dun Laoghaire’s Richard Sykes and Robert Abernethy on the back nine.
