Naas’ Robert Brazill won the first three holes en route to a 2&1 win over Royal Dublin’s Hugh Foley as the other four Irish qualifiers all made it safely through to the last 32 of the South African Amateur Championship at Mount Edgecombe.

Brazill now faces South Africa’s Warwick Purchase in the second round and remains on course for a possible quarter-final showdown with Irish team Mattew McClean, who beat Charl Barnard 1-up.

McClean now plays Pascal Gunther while Galgorm Castle’s Joshua Hill, a 1-up winner against Louis Liebenber, takes on Scotland’s Gregor Graham.

Douglas’ Peter O’Keeffe, who was a 4&2 winner over Travis Procter of South Africa, now faces Matthew Rossouw and could yet face Castle’s Robert Moran in the last eight.

Moran beat India’s Vinamra Anand 2&1 and now meets Scotland’s Gregor Tait for a place in the last 16.
