Kennedy just misses out at LIV Golf Promotions event

Royal Dublin amateur Max Kennedy came up just shy in his bid to make Sunday’s 36-hole shootout for three spots in the LIV Golf League next year.

The Dubliner (21) carded a two-under 70 at Abu Dhabi Golf Club in the second round after all first-round scores were reset at the LIV Promotions Event.

With just 20 players going through to the final day, he missed out on a five-person play-off for four shots as he tied for 22nd on two-under.

Kennedy made two birdies and a bogey to turn in one-under, then birdied the 10th to move inside the top 20.

But while he followed a bogey at the 14th with a birdie two at the 15th, he failed to pick up a shot coming home, missing from around 20 feet for birdie at the 18th.

He was quickly bumped out of the top 20 and after an anxious wait, it was Joel Stalter, Kevin Yuan, Kevin Chappell, Laurie Canter and Ben Campbell who played off for the last four spots after carding 69s.

Campbell was the unlucky player to miss out on a day when former PGA Championship winner Jason Dufner shot 75 to finish tied 40th.

Suteepat Prateeptienchai shot 64 to top the leaderboard by two strokes.

The 20 qualifiers will play 36 holes on Sunday with the top three (after any tiebreakers) awarded spots on a LIV Golf team in 2024.
