Douglas’ Jack Murphy beat Massereene’s Michael Wilson after a three-hole aggregate playoff to win the Leinster Under-16 Boys Open at Tullamore.

The duo finished on level par after two rounds.

Scores

Murphy began the second round with a two-shot lead, but two bogeys in his final three holes saw the Cork golfer card a level par 72 to end up in a play-off with Wilson, who started the day five shots back but carded a 67, the best score of the day by three shots.

The opening hole of the play-off proved crucial with Murphy's birdie on the par-5 15th, giving him a three-shot lead. He would win by one, despite a double-bogey on the 18th.

The 2021 Irish Under-14 Boys Open champion Sean Cooper (Enniscorthy) finished in third place, as he also won Under-15 honours at the event.
