Seamus Power insists he must stay aggressive over the weekend if he’s to clinch his maiden PGA Tour win in the Barbasol Championship in Kentucky.

The West Waterford ace added a four-under 68 to his opening 65 Keene Trace Golf Club to share fourth place on 11-under par, just two strokes behind leader JT Poston (66).

“I didn't quite get it going kind of the way I did yesterday, but all in all, very steady,” Power said. “I had a lot of chances, wasn't able to take as many, but overall, very pleased.”

Scores

Power is buzzing with confidence after racking three top-10s and two top-20s in his last five starts.

But he knows he must keep his foot on the gas if he’s to consolidate his position in the top 125 in the FedEx Cup standings to secure his card or claim a maiden win tomorrow that would end all his headaches.

Asked the key for the weekend, he said: “Staying aggressive. What am I, 11 under? You're not winning anything at 11 under. I mean, you know you're going to have to go well up into the 20s.

“So I'll do a little bit of practice here and try to get the game sharp to go at some pins tomorrow.”

He added: “Confidence is high. I've been playing some nice golf. I knew the game was in good shape and I had to wait for the summer to kind of get my opportunities, so it was a little frustrating earlier in the season, but it is what it is. That's what this category, that was always going to be the kind of status to play, so hopefully kind of keep it going here into the rest of the summer.”

Poston leads by a shot from Ryan Armour (67) and Joseph Bramlett (67) on 13-under with Power tied for fourth with Luke List, Brian Stuard and Taylor Pendrith.
