Castletroy impressively overcame Dungarvan 4-1 to win the Munster Final of the AIG Junior Cup at Fermoy.

John Kavanagh Snr led the way with a 7&6 win to put the first point on the board for the Limerick club before Olly Hodges added a second point on the 15th green.

The match was settled when Ian Irwin won the third point for Castletroy on the 17th, meaning that John Lynch and Sean Mernagh were called in.

Earlier in the day, Castletroy beat East Cork in the first semi-final while Dungarvan beat Berehaven in the second match.

Castletroy last won in Munster in 2014 and that year they went on to win a national pennant also.

They will now advance to the AIG Cups and Shields All Ireland finals which are scheduled to take place in Donegal Golf Club in October.

The golf course in Fermoy was in great condition, and a credit to the course staff and the many members who volunteered to assist over the past few months.

Pierce Purcell Shield Final in the balance

In the AIG Pierce Purcell Shield Munster Final, darkness prevailed and play was suspended after 22 holes in the final match.

Kenmare had beaten East Cork and Spanish Point beat Cahir Park in the morning semi-finals.

In an effort to complete the matches, the Tournament Committee made the decision to start the final from multiple tee boxes.  Spanish Point took two early points and Kenmare won two matches on the 18th to leave it down to the last match in the course.

That left Kenmare's Charlie Vaughan & Gerald O'Dwyer battling against Spanish Point's Sean McMahon and Patrick Hogan.

The pair couldn't be separated after 18 holes.  The stalemate continued through the 19th, 20th, 21st, and despite a suggestion to suspend the game the fourball continued with the par-three 22nd.  That hole was halved in darkness with the players agreeing to continue the match at 4 pm on Sunday.
