Jonathan Yates and Gary Hurley head the Irish challengers hoping to follow in the footsteps of Brendan McCarroll and European Tour star Matt Wallace in this week's Gosser Open in Austria.

The event, which is celebrating its 28th staging, marks the return to action on the Alps Tour after a six-month break with a full field of 144 players set to tee off at Erzherzog Johann Golf Club on Thursday.

Strict sanitary protocols are in place to ensure the safety of players and staff. The 48-strong Austrian contingent includes holder Timon Baltl, 2017 winner Lukas Nemecz and local hero Martin Wiegele, who won in 2008.

The Austrians may also have to watch out for Ladies European Tour player Sarah Schober and amateur Emma Spitz.

Former European Tour stalwart Barry Lane, now an eight-time winner on the Staysure Tour, will also tee it up. The par 72, 5967-metre (6,526-yard) course features numerous doglegs and blind holes, daring players to play over the trees or play safe.

Donegal native McCarroll won in 2012 and 2013 while Wallace, now ranked 45th in the world, won in 2016 to capture the third of six titles on the Alps Tour that season.

Peter Dallat will also tee it up while Ronan Mullarney, Michael Dallat and Simon Bryan are reserves.
