The cover story of the first issue was an interview by Shane O’Donoghue with a young Pádraig Harrington talking about his career and his ambitions for the future.

Tiger Woods was a force of nature and playing the type of golf the world had never seen before. The world was in awe and fell in love with this American wonder.

Woods brought a new kind of athleticism and dedication to the game and became the most famous sportsman on the planet.

We wondered if Harrington could win the Irish Open, which had eluded so many before him and whether he could do the unimaginable and actually win a major.

Darren Clarke was also on the ascent and many thought he would be first past the post but Harrington’s work ethic would proved to be a major factor, as he went on to win The Open Championship twice and the USPGA once, while Darren went on to win The Open.

Then along came Rory McIlroy, a kid with bags of potential but with still a very long road to travel – a road he has now travelled well, wrapping up four majors along the way.

Amazingly, there was even more Irish success to come as Graeme McDowell won the US Open, Paul McGinley captained a winning European Team at the Ryder Cup in Gleneagles and who can forget the historic Ryder Cup at the K Club back in 2006.

Then there was Royal Portrush, The Open Championship and Shane Lowry who won the most symbolic major of them all.

Golf Digest Ireland has covered all their incredible journeys, every step of the way.

It’s been quite a journey.
