Forrest Little’s Julie McCarthy has accepted an invitation to tee it up in the second staging of the Augusta National Women's Amateur from April 1-4.

The 21-year-old Dubliner, who is now ranked 19th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and enjoyed a stellar rise in the amateur game since joining Auburn University, will become the second Irish woman to play in the event after Olivia Mehaffey finished tied 23rd last year.

Mehaffey initially accepted an invitation to play again this year but opted instead to play in the clashing ANA Inspiration, the opening women’s major of the season, as she looks forward to turning professional later this year.

”It was a great phone call to get,” the Swords native said of her late addition to the field. “It has been a tough start to the semester so it is great to have the opportunity to have something to look forward to and to play is such an amazing event having heard everything about it last year!”

While McCarthy has been battling a cold putter so far this year, she was a first-team All-SEC selection as a sophomore at Auburn University last season after finishing with a team-best 72.90 scoring average.

Now a Junior, she joint winner of the rain-shortened Clemson Invitational in April and tied ninth in the Magnolia Invitational in October.

She was also a member of the winning International team at the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup, winning three of her four matches to earn a place in the 2019 Evian Championship.

Prior to her arrival at Auburn, McCarthy was the 2016 Leinster Girls Champion, 2016 Ulster Girls' Open Champion and 2016 Connacht Girls' Open Champion.

She represented Ireland in the European Girls' Team Championship from 2014-16 and has competed in the European Ladies' Team Championship in each of the past three years.

She was the Irish Girls Champion in both 2013 and 2016.
