Royal Dublin’s Max Kennedy is just two shots off the lead with a round to play after making a sensational start in his first event in the US.

The University of Louisville freshman has only been in the US for five weeks but he kicked off his US career by blasting nine birdies in a six-under 65 playing as an individual in the South Bend GCAA Amateur in Indiana.

He then added a one-under 70 and lie just two shots behind the world No 115, Notre Dame’s Palmer Jackson on seven-under entering today’s final round at South Bend Country Club.

And Irish Boys international, Kennedy won the Faldo Series Northern Ireland Championship in 2019 and this year’s Faldo Series Ireland Championship at Glasson.

He had to quarantine for two weeks on arrival in Kentucky on September 1 but has since practised hard with his teammates, who include Irishmen Hugh O’Hare, Devin Morley and John Murphy, and appears to be loving the environment.

O’Hare is tied for fifth on four-under after rounds of 70 and 68.
