Hermitage's Brian O'Connor won the Leinster Mid-Amateur Championship at Headfort's New Course.

The Dubliner beat Rory Leonard in a three-hole playoff after they had tied on two-over-par 146, two strokes ahead of William Smith, Christopher Moulds, Eddie McCormack and Karl Murray.

Former West of Ireland champion Leonard set the clubhouse target when he followed a 74 with a level par 72.

But more than an hour later O'Connor posted a second successive 73 and went on to win over three holes.

Smith from Chambersburg Country Club, USA took third place on countback from Lisburn's Moulds while the best nett over 36 holes went to Andrew Norrby, also from Lisburn, with a score of 143.
