Woodbrook’s Tom Dowdall added a magnificent, six-under 67 to his opening 76 to lead the Irish Student Championship by two strokes with one round to play at Murvagh.

On the PGA Europro Tour, Jonny Caldwell leads the 33-strong home challenge in the Prem Group Irish Masters at Tulfarris, three shots behind England's Adam Chapman after opening with a four-under 68.

Recently crowned Irish U16 champion Joe Byrne from Baltinglass opened with a creditable 74 on his debut in a professional event with Jamie Fletcher carding a 77.

In the US Senior Women's Amateur, East Berkshire's Laura Webb lost by one hole to Australia's Sue Wooster in the quarter-finals at Cedar Rapids Country Club in Iowa.
