Lauren Walsh seventh in Italian Amateur Championship

Castlewarden's Lauren Walsh finished an excellent seventh behind Pauline Roussin Bouchard of France in the Italian Women's Amateur Championship in Sardinia as Holywood's Tom McKibbin finished 25th in the men's event in Lecce.

One of Ireland's best performers in last year's Youth Olympic Games, Walsh shot rounds of 75, 72, 74 and 72 to finish on five-over par, just six strokes behind the winner at Is Molas in Sardinia.

Italian Women’s Amateur - Final scores

Roussin Bouchard (75 71 72 69) came from four strokes off the lead, closing with a three-under 69 to win by one stroke from Italy's Alessia Nobilio (72 69 73 74) on one-under-par 287.

Former Roma and Juventus players Mirko Vucinic

Swiss golfer Elena Moosmann and Italy's Emilie Alba Paltrinieri were third on two-over 290 with England's Lily May Humphreys, who held the 54-hole lead with Nobilio on two-under, finishing fifth on 291 after a 77.

Lurgan's Annabel Wilson (72 77 79 72) tied for 20th on 12-over 300 after a closing 72 with Lisburn's Paula Grant (82 74 77 76) tied 44th on 309.

In the men's event, played at Acaya Golf and Country Club in Lecce, Germany's Brandon Dietzel (71 68 72 69) closed with a two-under 69 to win by three strokes from Nordin Van Tilburg of the Netherlands on four-under 280.

Former Roma and Juventus player Mirko Vucinic missed the 54-hole cut after rounds of 79, 84 and 88 as McKibbin finished strongly, carding a one-under 70 on the final day to finish 25th on 13-over 297 (77 77 73 70).
