Murphy tied 12th in French Amateur; Williamson heads Irish in Wales

French International Amateur Open — Kinsale's John Murphy made two birdies and two bogeys in a 71 to share 12th place after the opening round of the Internationaux de France Messieurs - Coupe Murat at Chantilly.

Playing out of Irish-owned Paris club Clement Ader, Murphy is six strokes behind Dane Marcus Helligkilde, whose bogey-free 65 gave him a three-shot lead over England's Bradley Moore.

Williamson nine back in Wales

Welsh Amateur — Holywood’s Rory Williamson is the best of the Irish after the opening round of the Welsh Open Stroke Play at the Vale.

The Co Down man made three birdies in a two over 75 but trails England’s Gian-Marco Petrozzi by nine shots.

Petrozzi made eight birdies in a seven-under par 66 to lead by four shots from England’s Ben Jones (70) and Welshman Tim Harry (70).
