County Sligo's Ruairi O'Connor showed some of the form that helped his club win the AIG Senior Cup last year when he cruised to victory in the Headfort Senior Scratch Cup on Sunday.

The Connacht ace fired rounds of 72 and 74 to edge out Old Conna's David Donald by two strokes on 146 with Mullingar's Gareth Carr third on 150.

O'Connor is clearly in thumping former, leaving former South of Ireland champion John Greene of Portmarnock seven behind on 153 after rounds of 78 and 75.

Greene will be hoping for some revenge if he makes Portmarnock's Senior Cup team this year. Competition for places in the north Dublin club's Barton Shield team is already red hot with James Fox, Geoff Lenehan and Jack Pierse all shining recently and current South of Ireland champion Conor Purcell performing well on the US collegiate scene for the University of North Carolina in Charlotte.
