Jon Rahm set for Dubai Duty Free Irish Open at Portstewart

Jon Rahm

Up and coming Spanish superstar Jon Rahm will make his regular European Tour debut in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open at Portstewart from July 6-9.

The 22-year old Basque ace, who tied for 27th behind Sergio García in the Masters and played in last year's Open at Royal Troon as a professional, has made a brilliant start to his career in the paid ranks.

Tied third on his professional PGA Tour debut in the Quicken Loans National last summer, he has already posted a win, two second-place finishes and nine top 10s, climbing to No. 12 in the world before falling to No 13 this week.

A former World Amateur No 1, he holed a 60-foot eagle putt on the 18th to win the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines for his maiden PGA Tour win in January.

He was then tied third behind Dustin Johnson on his World Golf Championships debut in the WGC-Mexico Championship before taking the world No 1 to the 18th in the final of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in Austin.

According to Spanish golf portal Tengolf.com, Rahm will also play the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open before teeing it up in the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.

The former Arizon State Univeristy star had planned to play in the HNA Open de France from June 29 to July 2 but has now opted to prepare for The Openn by playing links golf in Ireland and Scotland.

He also has plans to play the Open de Italia, the Andalucía Valderrama Masters and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.

Masters winner Garcia is not expected to add the Irish Open to his schedule.
