Thomas Mulligan had a tough third day but still made the cut with a shot to spare in the Italian Amateur Championship in Lecce.

The 17-year-old County Louth star slipped to a seven-over-par 78 at Circolo Acaya Golf and Country Club, but at 14-over, he still made the cut for the top 60 and ties.

The guillotine fell at 15-over-par 228 which meant that County Sligo's Declan Reidy missed out by six shots on 234 after a 77.

American Sean Crocker added a 70 to previous rounds of 68 and 69 to get to six-under and take a three-stroke lead into Sunday's final round over Finland's Sami Valimaki (71).

Morocco's Idomar Ayoud shot a 68 to trail by four shots in third place with Frenchman Pierre Pineau the only other player in red figures after a 70 got him to one-under-par.

Defending champion Victory Veyret (71) of France is tied for 10th on four-over-par.
