Moynihan and Maybin start well; O'Driscoll's best finish; McNamara slips

Gavin Moynihan

Sunshine Tour — Gavin Moynihan got off to an excellent start by carding a three under 69 in the first round of the Dimension Data Pro-Am on the Outeniqua course at Fancourt Hotel and Golf Estate.

The former Walker Cup star from The Island made five birdies and two bogeys and shares 22nd place, five strokes behind leader Laurie Canter.

The Englishman finished eagle-birdie on his way to an eight-under-par 64 at the same venue for a one-stroke lead over Jaco Ahlers, who also played his round on Outeniqua.

The 164-man field plays one round at the Outeniqua, Montagu and The Links courses before the 54-hole cut and the final round at the Montagu.

Gareth Maybin shares 63rd on one-under thanks to a 71 at the Montague while Jeff Hopkins is 99th on one-over after a 74 at The Links.

Tommy suffers from cold putter

Alps Tour — A closing 76 wasn't what he had in mind, but Tommy O'Driscoll still notched the best result of his short Alps Tour career when he finished 22nd in the €30,000 Ein Bay Open in Egypt.

Four three-putts did the damage as the Golf Clément Ader player made five bogeys before picking up his lone birdie of the day at the 18th at Sokhna Golf Club in the opening event of the Alps Tour season.

O'Driscoll earned €400 while the top cheque for €5,000 went to France's Julien Brun as he shot 69 to win by one from Xavier Poncelet and Alexandre Daydou on 13-under par.

David Carey and amateur Eamonn O'Driscoll missed the cut.
