McNamara five back in Morocco; mixed fortunes for Moynihan and Hopkins

EPD Tour — Rory McNamara opened his defence of The Tony Jacklin Open in Morocco with a three-under par 69.

The Headfort man is tied for 22nd at The Tony Jacklin in Casablanca, five shots behind former Irish Amateur Open winner Pedro Figueiredo.

The Portuguese player nine birdies and a bogey in an eight under 64 to lead by one stroke from the Czech Republic's Stanislav Mutus, Germany's Nicolai Von Dellingshausen, Scotland's Chris Robb and The Netherlands' Robin Kind.

Moynihan well bacl South Africa

Sunshine Tour — Gavin Moynihan is 11 shots behind leader Justin Hicks after an opening 74 in the Eye of Africa PGA Championship in Johannesburg.

The former Walker Cup star's two over round left him tied for 83rd at Eye of Africa Signature Golf Estate, where American Hicks shot a nine under par 63 to lead by two shots from South Africa's MJ Viljoen and Colin Nel.

Royal Dublin and Skerries' Jeff Hopkins, playing in his first event since the death of his pal and coach Wayne Westner, is near the back of the field after an 86 in the 72-hole event
