Less than a week after putting the new Wilson Staff FG Tour V6 forged irons in his bag, three-time Major winner Padraig Harrington won his 15th European Tour title at the Portugal Masters with a masterclass of accurate approach play and solid putting.

It was his first victory on the European Tour since 2008, moving him up 63 places to 97th in the Official World Golf Rankings .

Harrington, who is renowned for his attention to detail when choosing equipment, put the new V6 irons in his bag during a practice round earlier in the week.

“I tried out the new FG Tour V6 irons on Monday and loved them. They were so good, I put them straight into the bag,” Harrington said.

“I tried to be really aggressive …I just tried to go after every pin I could and make birdies. I have a pretty good short game that was on form this week. No matter where I hit it, I felt like I could get it up and down.”

Commenting on his outstanding result with the new clubs, Doug Wright, Global Commercial Director at Wilson Golf said: “It’s great to see Padraig return to winning ways and to do so with a brand new Wilson Staff iron in the true tradition of the brand.

"His victory on the European Tour comes just a week after Brendan Steele captured the first PGA Tour event of the 2017 season also using FG Tour irons. It adds up to a great week for Wilson Staff and those involved in the brand’s global progress in recent times.”

Other Wilson Staff clubs in Harrington’s bag that featured during the decisive rounds in Portugal were the Infinity South Side putter, the D200 17-degree hybrid, a V4 Utility 4-iron and two FG Tour PMP wedges (52 & 54 degrees).

The tournament also saw an impressive performance by Paul Lawrie, another former Open champion using Wilson Staff clubs, who finished in T5 with a closing 67 for a -20 total.
