David Higgins carded a three under par 67 to win the Murray Timber Group Athenry Pro-Am in association with Investec.

The Waterville professional, a recent winner at the Greystones Pro-Am, edged out Massereene Noel Murray and Old Conna's Donal Gleeson by a shot at Athenry GC in Co Galway.

The 42-year-old made a poor start to his round with a dropped shot at the first but responded with birdies at the fourth and sixth to go to the turn in one under 34.

He played some solid golf on the back nine, adding seven pars and collecting birdies at the 15th and 18th to come home in two under 33.

The team event was won by Masereene GC professional David Hughes and amateur partners David Burke, Tom Hanley and Anthony Samuels.

The next event on the PGA in Ireland schedule is a PGA Sprint at Seapoint GC on May 25th.
