Challenge Tour — Niall Kearney missed the cut by one (72-72) and Gareth Shaw by two (74-71) as England's Sam Hutsby fared best during a cold and wet second round at Zhailjau Golf Resort, carding a course record equalling 63 to lead by five heading into the weekend at the Kazakhstan Open.

Recent Rolex Trophy winner Byeong-hun An is his closest challenger after a five under par score of his own, with the Korean in second place alongside former Ryder Cup star Oliver Wilson, who matched Hutsby’s impressive Friday tally en route to his lowest score to par as a professional.

Adrien Bernadet was at the top of affairs after 18 holes in the Central Asian country, but a level par round in the worst of the morning weather saw him drop to fourth spot at seven under.

As for Hutsby, he is ideally placed to pick up a maiden European Challenge Tour title after ten birdies and a bogey, a feat that he puts down to some solid play from the tee, but more importantly, a resurgence on the greens.

European Senior Tour —  England’s Gary Emerson launched himself to the top of the leaderboard at the WINSTONgolf Senior Open with a superb seven under par 65 in the first round.

The 50 year old notched eight birdies and a bogey to sit one shot clear of a group of five players including home favourite Bernhard Langer, who birdied the last for a fine 66 at Vorbeck in Germany.

Cork's Denis O'Sullivan had seven birdies in a four under 68 to lie three shots off the pace in a share of 13th with Ryder Cup assistant captain Des Smyth (71) in the pack on one under with Philip Walton (72) on level par.

LPGA – Stephanie Meadow made the cut in the Yokohama Tire LPGA Championship in Alabama but the Royal Portrush star slipped from the fringes of the Top-10 to tied 34th on two under after a 74.
 Scoring
Almost certain to head for the second stage of the LPGA Q-School next week if she fails to make $90,000 this week to bring her season's earnings inside the equivalent of the Top-40 in the money list, Meadow started bogey, double bogey on the back nine.
Two birdies helped her turn in one over for the day, three under for the tournament But she the carded another double bogey at the third before a birdie four at the eighth gave her a 74.
At two under, she's 11 strokes behind South Africa's Paula Leto (65-66) who leads by three strokes from South Korea's Jung Mi Hur with defending champion Stacy Lewis four behind on nine under.
