Irish girls go down fighting at Donabate

Ireland lost 4-5 to England on the opening day of the Girls Home International Matches at Donabate as Wales beat Scotland 7-2.

But the title is still very much up for grabs and there were many positives to take from the opening day from the 2-1 win in the foursomes to some superb singles performances from the likes of Lurgan's Annabel Wilson and Niamh McSherry and Killarney's Mairead Martin.

Ireland play Wales on Thursday hoping that Scotland can do them a favour against England
