First-time finalists Killarney will play 1988 champions Laytown and Bettystown in the final of the AIG sponsored Irish Senior Cup at Mount Wolseley Hotel, Spa and Country Club today, writes the ILGU.

Underage stars Valerie Clancy, Caitriona Griffin and Mairead Martin haven been inspirational for the Munster side, who beat Elm Park in Friday’s semi finals having already dispatched Co. Sligo earlier in the day.

In a much tighter affair, the second semi final saw Laytown and Bettystown overcome a strong challenge from 2009 champions Kilkenny.

Mary Dowling drew first blood for the Cats with a home green victory over Carol Wickham, who’s daughter Rachel levelled the tie with a 16th hole victory over Orla Dunphy.

Alison Taylor continued her fine form winning on 16  to nudge her side ahead only for Kilkenny’s Mary Leahy Browne to level the contest once again with an extra tie hole win over Barbara Cooney.

It was then left to youngster Ellie Metcalfe who booked the Meath side’s berth in Satuday’s final, edging past the experienced Ann Smee at the first extra tie hole.

Laytown and Bettystown now aim to repeat their sole victory achieved back in 1988 while the youngsters of Killarney look to win the Irish Senior Cup at their first time of trying.

The final tees off at Mount Wolseley Hotel, Spa and Country Club at 10am tomorrow, Saturday 16 August and all are welcome.
