Hermitage's Rowan Lester cruised into the matchplay stages of the British Boys Amateur Championship when finished tied for third behind Scots Calum Fyfe and Christopher Curran in strokeplay qualifying at Prestwick and Dundonald Links.

The Dubliner shot a three over 74 at Prestwick to finish on three over 146, one stroke adrift of the Scottish pair.

However, there was no luck for the other seven Irish hopefuls with Warrenpoint's Jamie Fletcher the best of the rest as he missed the cut by four shots after a second round 79 at Dundonald Links.

Fyfe, from Cawder, eagled the par five 12th to follow birdies on the 3rd and the 10th on his way to a one-under-par 70 at Prestwick and a two-over-par total of 145 as Curran carded a level-par 71 at Prestwick to finish on the same mark.

Defending champion Ewen Ferguson qualified on a ten-over-par total of 153 as did Irish Boys Amateur Open Champion Bradley Moore.
