Galway's Joe Lyons and Limerick's Pat Murray will do battle for overall victory in the gross section of the Titleist Mid West Alliance with just two events to go.

On Sunday, Banagaher native Lyons and his faithful caddie Vera defied swirling winds at Dromoland Castle to win with 37 points and tie with Tipperary man Murray in the overall standings.

Despite three-pitting the par-five fifth after two great shots, Lyons short-sided himself and double bogeyed the eighth before finally moving up a gear.

He began by holing his second for an eagle two at the ninth, parred the 10th and then birdied the 11th to round Amen corner in a magnificent three under par.

In Category two, former Clare All Ireland winning hurler Alan Neville is the run away leader after another magnificent score of 40 points

The last two rounds of the Titleist Mid West Alliance will take place on March 30 and April 13.
