Mooney wins North Western Alliance at Ballyliffin

Magnificent Ballyliffin Golf Club

Big-hitting Damian Mooney claimed the gross prize in Saturday's North Western Golfing Alliance outing on the Glashedy Course at Ballyliffin.

The Belfast man had five birdies in a level par 72 on a sunny autumnal day, edging out Faughan Valley's Noel Callan by a stroke.

There was a familiar look to the top results in the Nett section with Maurice McGettigan from Strabane Golf Club, second in the previous outing, moving into the top spot on a countback from Faughan Valley's Kevin Hunter with 40 points.

The next competition will take place in Rosapenna Golf Club for prestigious St. Patrick's Plate, which was presented to the North Western Alliance by the great Jack Nicklaus on behalf of the Walsh family from Carrigart.

The St Patrick's course was recently bought by the Casey family and the plate is competed for each season when the Alliance makes its first visit to this exciting complex.

There was a much improved attendance of members this week and hopefully that will continue to the end of the season although any one still wanting to play will be welcome.

Tee times available between 11am and 12 noon. Just organise a fourball and telephone +353 87 248 8181 to book your place.
