Power surges at Q-School — makes 18 birdies in red-hot 38-hole stretch

Seamus Power

West Waterford's Seamus Power produced the kind of form that's seen him dominate the eGolf Professional Tour this season as he cruise into second place with a round to go at the First Stage of the Web.com Q-School in Georgia.

Having birdied his last two holes to open with a modest one under par 71 at Callaway Gardens Mountain View, 27-year old Power completed a second round, eight under 64 on Thursday morning and then added a 66 in the afternoon. Scores

That left him alone in second on 15 under par, just a shot behind Alabama's Will McCurdy in a qualifier where the top 31 and ties after Friday's fourth round will progress to next months' Second Stage.

It was a remarkable day for Power, who made eight birdies in completing an immaculate 64 on Thursday morning before making another seven birdies and just one bogey in his third round 66.

Considering he finished with two birdies in the first round, he made the staggering total of 18 birdies in just 38 holes.

Dungannon's Fergal Rafferty and Stephen Grant from The Heritage will play their First Stage qualifiers next week.
