Claremorris and Newlands in Mixed decider
Claremorris’ Stephen Healy, who will play Stage One of the European Tour Qualifying School this year, helped Claremorris qualify for the final of the I Need Spain Irish Mixed Foursomes at Douglas Newlands and Claremorris will meet in the final of the I Need Spain Irish Mixed Foursomes at Douglas Golf Club on Friday after they saw off the challenges of Clonmel and Mannan Castle.
Edward Kelly and Esme Murphy got Newlands off to a flyer in their semi-final win over Clonmel with a convincing 5 and 4 win over Emmy Pyke and Deirdre Ronan.
This was followed shortly afterwards by a win for Mark Dunne and Yvonne Yendole over Denis Conway and Anne Fahey by 6 and 5 which gave Tony Brannock and Joanne Croft the opportunity to claim a final berth for the west Dublin club.
The Dublin pair closed out the match against Brian McLean and Gemma Murphy on the last green to edge it by 1 hole and give the Dublin outfit a place in the final.
Irish international Andrew Hogan, paired with Carmel Bradshaw failed to overcome Keith Norris and Helen O’Donoghue, losing by 2 and 1 while Barry Connell and Louise Halpin were accounted for by Padraig and Roisin Quinlivan.
Claremorris, who claimed 27 shots in their five matches against Ulster qualifiers Mannan Castle, strolled to victory with a convincing 4-1 win over the Carrickmacross club.
Stephen Healy and Hannah Grant combined for a 5 and 4 win over Mark Lambe and Teresa Butler, while Tom Fanning and Rebecca Kean won their match 4 and 2 against Eddie Roullier and Louise Hanratty.
The win was secured by Ger Noone and Christina Rush who saw off Paudie McEneaney and Mary MacNamee 3&2. The remaining two matches were called in.
The final gets underway at 10am on Friday morning.
