McGeady and MacLochlainn tops at Rosapenna

Michael McGeady, pictured above en route to victory in the Irish PGA at Roganstown, won the North Western Golfing Alliance outing at Rosapenna. Picture: Thos Caffrey / www.golffile.iePaul MacLochlainn won the St. Patrick’s Perpetual Plate as reigning Irish PGA champion Michael McGeady took the gross prize in the recent North Western Golfing Alliance outing at Rosapenna’s Old Tom Morris links.

McGeady went out in 35, four shots fewer than anyone else in the 70-man field, and came home in 38 to card a two over 73 for a two-stroke win over Damian Mooney with Brian McElhinney taking third place after a 77 in his last Alliance outing before he gets married in a fortnight.

The St. Patrick’s Perpetual Plate for the nett winner was presented to the Alliance eight years ago by the Walsh family of Carrigart when they sold the St. Patrick’s course.

Jack Nicklaus presented the plate to the Alliance on behalf of the Walsh family on 15 November 2006. The Casey family from Rosapenna recently purchased the St Patrick’s course and it is appropriate that the Plate is now competed for in Rosapenna and is on permanent display in the clubhouse.

The alliance will now go into hibernation until 1st February when it will re-emerge from its winter break at Portsalon Golf Club.
