Moriarty happy despite 73

Andrea Perrino continued a fine day for Italian golf as the Livorno man moved into a three way tie for the lead going into the final day of the Credit Suisse Challenge, alongside Finland’s Janne Mommo and Frenchman Gary Stal. Picture - Andreas Meier/freshfocusColm Moriarty insisted he was still happy with his lot at the Credit Suisse Challenge despite dropping out of contention after a two over par third round of 73, leaving him tied for 21st on three under par and seven shots off the pace, writes the European Challenge Tour.

The 33 year old had a steady front nine by parring his way to the turn before a bogey at the 10th knocked him back. Two more bogeys followed at the 14th and 16th holes but he did finish with a flourish after he chipped in for birdie from the edge of the green at the 18th, to the delight of the watching crowds.

While it wasn’t the score he was looking for, the Athlone man was still happy with how he played in much tougher conditions at Golf Sempachersee, near Lucerne in Switzerland.

“I actually played really nicely today,” he said, “I played lovely for the first nine. It was windy but I gave myself loads of chances on the front nine and didn’t make any of them.

“Then I bogeyed ten and made another bogey at the 14th from 90 yards so it was frustrating because I drove it well enough to make a score. I didn’t hit a bad drive all day.

“I played well enough to shoot anything but I just didn’t get the putts and then next thing you’re two over but tomorrow’s another day. I’ll just try and free it up again tomorrow. I’ve been struggling with my head all year so it would be nice to get a good day tomorrow.

“I feel like I’ve got some big weeks in me, no doubt about it. I just have to trust myself more and stop thinking too much about things.”

Andrea Perrino, meanwhile, continued a fine day for Italian golf as the Livorno man moved into a three way tie for the lead going into the final day, alongside Finland’s Janne Mommo and Frenchman Gary Stal.

With his friend and fellow Inter Milan fan Francesco Molinari was on stunning form at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open on The European Tour, Perrino also had a day to remember at Golf Sempachersee, near Lucerne in Switzerland.

The 28 year old described it as one of the best rounds of his life as he carded four birdies and just one bogey on the way to a three under par 68, moving to ten under for the tournament.
