Power leads Irish trio into matchplay at British Boys

Kilkenny’s Mark Power, County Louth’s Thomas Mulligan and Cairndhu’s Marc McKinstry qualified for the matchplay stages in the British Boys Championship at Muirfield and The Renaissance in Scotland.

As Ardglass’ Matthew Fitzsimons (78 73 151) missed the cut by three shots with Greystones’ Alan Fahy (74 78 152) a shot further backm Power recovered from a five over 76 at Muirfield with a two under 69 at The Renaissance to lead 76 places up the leaderboard to qualify with ease in 22nd place on three over par. 

Mulligan followed his 75 at Muirfield with a 72 at The Renaissance to qualify in 43rd place on three over.

McKinstry finished in a 14 way tie for 64th which means he must face Norway’s Kenneth Johansson in a first round clash.

Power faces England’s Coby Blue Cartwright in the second round with Mulligan set to face India’s Rayhan John Thomas for a place in the last 32.
