Ireland have work to do to make the top flight in Denmark

Ireland have a battle on their hands to make the top flight as they ended the opening day tied for 10th in the European Ladies Amateur Team Championship at Helsingør Golf Club in Denmark.

Switzerland lead by a shot from England and France with Ireland tied for 10th with Norway, three shots behind Germany and the Netherlands on 19 over par.

Star player Leona Maguire is tied for 18th in the individual standings after a level par 71 with Skerries' Maria Dunne (74) tied 38th, Paula Grant and Jessica Carty tied 66th after 76s, Olivia Mehaffey tied 79th after a 77 while the battling Chloe Ryan will be trying to come back to fight another day after an 80.

In the European Girls' Amateur Team Championship at Golf Resort Kaskada Brno in the Czech Republic, Ireland are only one stroke outside the top eight after the opening day.

Lurgan's Annabel Wilson continued her good form from the Junior Vagliano Trophy with a level par 73 leaving her in 14th place with Niamh McSherry (74) in 18th, Julie McCarthy (75) 23rd, Mairead Martin (78) 51st, Ciara Casey (81) 87th and Valerie Clancy (84) 101st.
