Olivia Mehaffey took of where she left off in Scotland last weekend by taking the first round lead in the Welsh Ladies Open Strokeplay at Southerndown.

The Royal County Down Ladies’ star is going to her third win in as many weeks following her third successive Irish Girls Open Strokeplay victory at Roganstown a fortnight ago and Sunday’s victory in the Helm Holm Scottish Open Strokeplay at Royal Troon, which was her first senior triumph.

Battling windy conditions yet again, Mehaffey had four birdies and five bogeys in a one over 73 to take a one-shot first round lead over England’s Olivia Winning.

Chloe Ryan shot 77 to be tied for sixth with Maria Dunne joint 10th after a six over 78
