Help McGinley and Lawrie support Special Olympics and play PGA Catalunya

Paul McGinley will host a Golf Classic PGA Catalunya Resort’s Stadium Course on May 18 to help raise funds for Special Olympics.

Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organisation for people with intellectual disabilities, and you can play your part by teeing it up in a Golf Classic at Denis O'Brien's stunning 36-hole resort near Girona during the week of the Open de España, which will be played nearer Barcelona.

“I am happy to partner with Special Olympics, an organisation that, through sport, helps transforms lives," Mcginley said. "I am extremely supportive of its efforts in raising awareness of the talent and abilities of people with intellectual disabilities, as well as empowering athletes to reach their full potential.

“By staging the Golf Classic at PGA Catalunya Resort, a world class golf course and on every golfer’s “must play” list, I hope many will join me in Spain to support a great cause. I anticipate this being a truly exciting event."

Special guests include European Tour Player, Peter Lawrie, and Special Olympics athlete, Eduardo Vegas Ochoa from Spain with more names to be announced soon.

Guests will have the opportunity to play a practice round on the critically acclaimed Stadium Course on May 17,  the eve of the Special Olympics Golf Classic, or visit The 2015 Open de España taking place in nearby Real Club de Golf El Prat.

The evening will conclude with a dinner reception and auction at PGA Catalunya Resort’s onsite hotel. A shot gun start for the Classic will tee off on May 18th followed by lunch and an awards presentation.

Mary Davis, Regional President of Special Olympics in Europe Eurasia, said: “We are thrilled to have the support of Paul McGinley for our inaugural Golf Classic in Spain, as he shares many of the same qualities as our athletes in his warmth, his passion for teamwork, enthusiasm for sport, optimism and determination.

“We are also very grateful to the support of Special Olympics patron and PGA Catalunya Resort proprietor Denis O’Brien for opening the doors of his magnificent resort and welcoming us so warmly.

"All the funds raised will help send 78 Special Olympics athletes to represent Team Spain at the upcoming 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles, USA from July 25th to August 2nd."
