Irish crush England in Women's Home Internationals opener

Leinster pair Mary Doyle and Maria Dunne won together in foursomes and then won their singles at Aberdovey.

Ireland got off to a dream start in the Women's Home Internationals when they shocked a fancied England side 6-3 at Aberdovey as hosts Wales beat Scotland 6.5-2.5.

After sharing the morning foursomes 1.5-1.5, Ireland stepped up in the singles with wins for Maria Dunne, Mary Doyle, Jean O'Driscoll and Paula Grant, putting them in a great position before today's match with the Welsh.

Hollie Muse got England's lone victory with a 2 and 1 win over Olivia Mehaffey as Chloe Ryan and India Clyburn, the top points scorer at the recent Girls Home Internationals, shared the spoils in their match.

Wales set out their stall in decisive manner too, taking the singles by 5-1 from Scotland. Megan Briggs was Scotland's sole winner in the afternoon matches.
