Grant sixth as MacLaren wins Ladies' British Open

Lisburn's Paula Grant might have rued three late bogeys but closing rounds of 72 and 76 gave her an excellent sixth place finish in the Ladies' British Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship at Ashburnham.
The Ulster international finished on one over par 297, just five shots adrift of Wellingborough's Meghan Maclaren, who fired a five under 69 to come from five shots behind Olivia Winning with a round to play to win by one from Sarah-Jane Boyd on four under.
Grant was just three shots behing Winning with a round to go following her two under 72 in the morning round with Muskerry's Jean O'Driscoll a shot further back in a tie for fourth after a 74.
But it didn't go quite to plan for either Irish girl in the final round with Grant dropping those three late shots for her 76 and O'Driscoll carding 77 to end up tied for seventh on three over.
Castletroy's Chloe Ryan was 18th on 11 over after closing rounds of 78 and 73 with Donaghadee's Jessica Ross tied 21st on 12 over after rounds of 79 and 75.
Lahinch's Sinead Sexton (77-75) was tied 23rd on 15 over with Moate's Amy Farrell tied 27th.
