Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell have been grouped together for the first two rounds of next week's US Open at Pinehurst No 2.

The Northern Ireland pair, winners of the title in 2011 and 2010 respectively, will go off the first with 2012 champion Webb Simpson at 7.40 am local time (12.40 Irish time) on Thursday.

Darren Clarke is grouped with fellow Open champions Ernie Els and Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa while Shane Lowry goes off with Zimbabwe's Brandon De Jonge and American Kevin Stadler.

World No 1 Adam Scott is with two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson and 2011 green jacket winner Charl Schwartzel.
