The Mourne player beat Sweden’s Victor Tarnstrom 3 and 1 in the first round before seeing off Welshman Will Jones by 5 and 4 in the afternoon.
The Ulster player will face England’s Jamie Rutherford in the last eight but it was a disappointing day for the rest of the Irish survivors.
Joint leading qualifier Richard O’Donovan of Lucan lost 3 and 1 to Spain’s Santi Vega de Seoane as Ballymena’s Dermot McElroy fell by 3 and 2 to England’s Curtis Griffiths.
Headfort’s Rory McNamara also had a tough day, losing 7 and 5 to England’s Neil Raymond, who will face compatriot Jordan Smith in the last eight.
