Seamus Power is just outside the qualifying places midway though his US PGA Tour Q-School second stage qualifier in Florida.

The West Waterford player added a two under 69 to his opening 70 to get to three under par at Plantation Preserve Golf Course & Club near Fort Lauderdale.

But that was still just good enough for a share of 28th, a shot outside the top 19 and ties who will make it to the final stage in California at the end of the month.

Orlando’s Rob Oppenheim leads by two shots on 12 under par with familiar names such as Ryder Cup player Ross Fisher (66) alone in fifth on eight under and compatriot Oliver Fisher (66) a shot further back in joint sixth.

Power started on the back nine and bogeyed the 12th to turn in one over before picking up shots at the first, second and fourth in a homeward 32.

Former Swedish Ryder Cup player Jesper Parnevik was tied 50th on level par after a pair of 71s with Notah Begay three shots further back after a 74.

On the Europro Tour, Derry’s Mick McGeady shot a two under 70 to share 15th on two under with a round to play in the season-ending, 888poker.com Tour Championship at Woburn.

England’s Paul Maddy leads bon 10 under while Paul Cutler and Jonny Caldwell shot 72s to share 25th on two over with Tim Rice tied 35th on four over after a 73.

Maddy, who is 10 under par after 36 holes of the par 72 Marquess’ Course, is in a great position to secure his 2013 Challenge Tour card. He currently sits third on the Order of Merit with the top five earning Challenge Tour categories for next season.

James Watts lies second with one round to play after a five-under-par second-round 67. He came into the day one shot below par and six birdies matched with just one bogey saw him climb the leaderboard.
