Richard Kilpatrick gave his Q-School hopes a boost when won the Ping PGA Southern Championship at Roganstown.

Richard Kilpatrick is hoping to be reunited with Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry on the European TourThe Banbridge man carded a four under par 67 to win the title on 11-under-par 131 - just the kind of boost he needs before the first stage of the European Tour Qualifying School (Section B) at The Oxfordshire on Tuesday.

Twenty-five Irishmen will tee it up at four venues hoping for better luck than the 12 who played in Section A last week. 

Just four made the 54-hole cut but none managed to progress to stage two, including former amateur stars Noel Fox and Brian McElhinney.

Kilpatrick will be one of Ireland's leading hopes to progress this week alongside amateurs Niall Kearney and Cian Curley, former Tour player David Higgins and Irish Region stalwart John Kelly
