Sunday, November 8, 2009 at 17:32 Richard Kilpatrick came back from a triple bogey start to finish 11th in the $200,000 Egyptian Open at the JW Marriott Mirage City Golf Club.
England’s Steven Tiley closed with a 68 to take the title by four shots on 13 under par from Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen with European Ryder Cup skipper Colin Montgomerie in fifth place after a disappointing final round 72.
“I played well all week but just not consistently enough,” said Montgomerie. “Today was a poor day – driving well and putting OK but never at the same time. But overall I’m not too concerned. I’ll get it going again.”
Kilpatrick started with a triple bogey seven but followed up with four birdies and two bogeys for a respectable 73 that left in him 10 shots behind the winner on three under.
Challenge Tour player Gareth Shaw finished two shots further back in joint 16th on one-under after a level par 72.
The Egyptian Open looks certain to achieve full Challenge Tour status next season.
