Rory McIlroy celebrated his 19th birthday by picking up €4,000 at The Crowns tournament in Japan.

The Ulster starlet broke par for the first time all week, closing with a two-under par 68 at Nagoya Golf Club.

But he had to settle for a share of 33rd place on two-over - 11 shots outside a play-off for the title.

Tomohiro Kondo, 30, beat Hiroyuki Fujita with a birdie at the second extra hole to take his fourth tour title.

McIlroy will return to action in next week's Irish Open at Adare Manor.
