Phelan makes his move as Schwartzel dominates

Kevin Phelan continued his impressive start to his professional career with a solid third round 68 in the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek.

The Waterford talent, 23, leapt from the cut line to joint 15th on four under par as he missed just two fairways and scrambled brilliantly, carding five birdies and just one bogey at one of the most punishing venues on the European Tour schedule.

Kevin Phelan, Gareth Maybin and Damien McGrane dug deep to make the cut by the slimmest of margins in the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek. Rookie Phelan closed with 10 straight pars to card a two over 74 and make it on the level par limit while Maybin (75) and McGrane (72) both played their back nines in two under to finish alongside the Waterford man in joint 49th.
